Stainless Steel For Architecture And Civil Engineering
29 September, 2018
The world has seen the most drastic changes with time in the field of architecture and civil engineering. From the old Pyramids of Egypt and Taj Mahal to the Twin Towers of New York and the latest and miraculously established Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The buildings and constructions have been ever evolving since then and they still do and will keep on evolving in the coming time.
What has been the base of this evolution?
The base of this evolution has been the selection of materials the man used- Sand, wood, bricks, cement, iron, concrete, mortar etc. Man utilized the best of his craftmanship and materials available to bring out the changes in infrastructural development and modernization. Another factor that has forced man to modify the existing materials and technologies is the need to eradicate the flaws of the existing methods and materials. Ever since the beginning, getting the best for the least has been the motto of the mankind, be it for grocery or for building constructions.
Why Stainless Steel has the potential to Replace Iron?
Reinforced Concrete Cement i.e. RCC which is most widely used these days to make the modern infrastructure mainly consists of Concrete and Iron rods which are used to make beams, roofs, slabs, and other major building blocks of small and heavy buildings and constructions.
The Concrete or the cement and grit mixture along with the iron rods used with them eradicates the flaws of each other and makes a strong RCC component. Iron provides high tensile strength and Concrete provides rigidity to the RCC. In spite of so many pros, RCC have cons too. After a long usage, the iron because of moisture in the weather starts rusting and makes the component weak. Not only that, because of constant heat and cold in the climate, the expansion and contraction of iron gets cracks in the RCC.
Stainless Steel pipes saves the days like a hero over here. Due to their least rusting capabilities and less expansion and contraction properties, Stainless steel can last way longer and remain healthier than Iron made components.
The Smooth Surface Finish!
Apart from the strength and lifespan factors, Stainless steel gives you a way better surface finish to the components or parts which are directly exposed to the viewer or the outer world. The shine and smoothness that it brings to the components makes it a highly preferred material to make Clamps, rivets, handles, springs and hinges and many such simple yet highly important things. Most of the household items related to the interiors are made using only steel to make them look premium and help last for long.
Overall, a perfect material!
Because steel has a capability to be converted into different shapes and forms like the pipes, sheets, coils and nuts and bolts, when used together brings a marvellous uniformity among the construction made by an engineer and brings satisfaction to the viewer and customer together.
Stainless Steel has been accepted widely throughout the world and is a major component of many huge infrastructural components which have left their marks on the minds of people.
From the cantilever bridges and the over-hanging roofs, from the fancy lamp posts to the designer sectional lights, stainless steel has left its shine everywhere.
